Transporters’ Protest: Discontent Over Government’s Unilateral Introduction of E-Buses on Long Routes in Jammu District
Jammu, 27-03-2024 : Transporters in Jammu district voiced their discontent today through a demonstration against the Government’s decision to introduce e-buses on long routes without prior consultation. The protest, held at Ware House Jammu, saw numerous transporters expressing their grievances regarding what they perceive as a unilateral move by the Transport Department.
They highlighted an agreement between Transport Associations and the Department, emphasizing the need for consultation before the introduction of e-buses on long routes. However, they alleged that the Government proceeded to allow e-buses on routes like Jammu-Chhamb and Jammu-RS Pura without seeking their input, breaching the terms of the agreement.
One transporter emphasized their support for integrating e-buses but stressed the importance of consultation to mitigate adverse effects on existing operators. With 70 buses already operating in Jammu District, coordinated planning was urged to prevent disruptions in the transport system.
Another transporter expressed disappointment at the apparent disregard for their union’s input during three months of dialogue with the Government. He highlighted a lack of serious consideration for their suggestions, warning of potential future discontent if their concerns continue to be ignored.
Moreover, he emphasized that any inconvenience experienced by the public due to the unplanned rollout of e-buses should be attributed to the Government’s oversight.
