Trump Claims Kyiv Can “Fight and Win Back All of Ukraine” in Significant Policy Shift
Trump signals policy shift, asserting Ukraine can reclaim full territory with EU and NATO support amid Russia’s economic woes
New York, Sept 24: US President Donald Trump signaled a major shift in his stance on the Russia-Ukraine war, stating that Kyiv, with support from the European Union and NATO, can “fight and win all of Ukraine back in its original form.” The announcement came after his meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump said Ukraine now has the opportunity to reclaim its pre-war borders, citing Russia’s mounting economic pressures. He described Russia as “a paper tiger” that has been fighting “aimlessly” for over three and a half years, and emphasized that economic difficulties in Moscow create a strategic advantage for Ukraine.
“After understanding the Ukraine-Russia military and economic situation, and seeing the economic troubles it is causing Russia, I think Ukraine, with the support of the European Union, is in a position to fight and WIN all of Ukraine back in its original form,” Trump wrote. He also highlighted NATO and Europe’s role in providing financial and military support to Kyiv.
Trump’s remarks mark a departure from his earlier suggestions that Ukraine might need to concede territory a stance consistently rejected by President Zelensky. He additionally criticized Russian President Vladimir Putin’s leadership and hinted at potential “powerful tariffs” on Moscow.
Since Russia’s full-scale invasion in February 2022, Moscow has occupied nearly 20% of Ukraine’s territory, while Crimea remains under Russian control following its 2014 annexation. Trump’s statement underscores a renewed focus on economic leverage and international support as decisive factors in the conflict.
