Trumpeting smart city when people craving for water, power shows Govt’s duplicity: Rattan Lal Gupta

JAMMU September 3rd: Boasting of making Jammu a Smart City when on the ground the people are craving basic amenities like regular purified water supply and uninterrupted power shows the hypocrisy of the government of J&K.

This was stated by Rattan Lal Gupta Provincial President National Conference in a statement issued here today to counter false claims of the J&K administration after inaugurating fourteen projects under the Smart City initiative.

Exposing the J&K Government’s inefficiency in providing purified regular water supply and uninterrupted power, Gupta said that the government which has miserably failed to ensure potable water and uninterrupted power supply to the people is promising moon and stars to them which is sheer injustice as dismal public infrastructure, poor public services, and murky civic edifice has become the trademark of the incumbent dispensation in J&K and talking big over smart city initiative is nothing but a new way to divert the attention of the people from the real issues. “Only by laying foundation stones of projects things cannot be changed because the dilapidated road infrastructure, broken bridges, poor management of public services and edifice is testimony to the fact that everything is not right under the present dispensation as whatever is being trumpeted is to divert the attention of the people from the burning issues like poor education, health, civic infrastructure in J&K”, he, said adding that people will not get satisfied by only making bogus promises but the government has to do real work on the ground.

The senior NC President said that in spite of the availability of huge funds under the RAPDRP Project still, the Jammuites facing power scarcity, and the poles, wires, and junction boxes fitted are of poor quality. “The government is doing nothing except making false promises as can be gauged well by the protests and demonstrations by the people of Bahu Fort, Janipur, Paloura, and many other areas seeking purified regular water supply and uninterrupted power supply.

He said that since 2014, the National Conference had been asking for stopping discrimination in the Jammu province. He said that NC’s point has been vindicated by the statement of LG Sinha, who yesterday assured that from now onwards there will be no discrimination with Jammu meaning clearly that till date Jammu was subjected to sheer injustice through prejudice and discrimination.
