Two Ludhiana men arrested for plotting targeted killing under foreign extremist handlers
Intelligence-led operation nabs two accused linked to overseas KCF operatives
Chandigarh, Jan 7: In a major intelligence-driven operation, Punjab Police have arrested two Ludhiana-based individuals who were allegedly planning a targeted killing on the instructions of foreign-based handlers with Khalistani extremist links.
According to police, the accused were in contact with handlers based in the United Kingdom and Germany, believed to be associated with the Khalistan Commando Force and its hardline ideology. Director General of Police Punjab, Gaurav Yadav, said preliminary investigations have revealed that the duo had been actively gathering intelligence and carrying out reconnaissance of government establishments and prominent offices in Ludhiana as part of the conspiracy.
In a post on social media platform X, the DGP said that the arrests were made during a coordinated operation carried out by the State Special Operation Cell, SAS Nagar, in close coordination with Counter Intelligence, Ludhiana. During the operation, police recovered a 9 mm pistol along with five live cartridges from the accused.
He said the suspects had been tasked not only with conducting reconnaissance but also with collecting inputs and laying groundwork related to several identified individuals, indicating a broader and more organised plan. The timely intervention, he added, prevented the conspiracy from advancing further.
An FIR has been registered at the Police Station of the State Special Operation Cell, SAS Nagar, under relevant sections of law. Police said further investigation is underway to uncover both forward and backward linkages of the accused, including their network of contacts, funding channels and possible local or overseas associates.
Senior officials said the arrests highlight the continued efforts of Punjab Police to counter terror modules and neutralise threats through intelligence-based operations. They reiterated that strict vigilance is being maintained to prevent attempts to disturb peace and security in the state, while investigations will continue to dismantle the wider network behind the foiled plot.
