Two more High Court Justices bring the Supreme Court’s strength back up to full

10-02-2023 : With the promotion of two High Court Chief Justices to the top court, India’s Supreme Court is once again at its 34-member capacity.

The supreme court’s most recent period of full strength was from September to November 2019. The 34-judge collegium has recently gained the Chief Justices of the Allahabad High Court and the Gujarat High Court.

The Supreme Court Collegium received recommendations for Chief Justices Rajesh Bindal and Aravind Kumar last month.

Following closely on the heels of the February 4 nomination of five judges to the supreme court based on recommendations given in December 2022, Justices Bindal and Kumar were appointed.

Following the announcement from the Centre, Justices Pankaj Mithal, Sanjay Karol, PV Sanjay Kumar, Ahsanuddin Amanullah, and Manoj Misra took their oaths of office on February 6.
