UDHAMPUR, DECEMBER-21:- As part of the celebration of ” Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav “(India@75), a plantation drive was conducted by the Udhampur Forest Division on the foothills of the Gangera catchment area.
District Development Council Chairperson, Udhampur, Lal Chand was the chief guest, while BDC Chairman, Udhampur Balwan Singh was the guest of honour.
During the drive, the chief guest and officers/ Officials of the Forest department planted saplings, Badh, and Peepal trees which have huge religious significance.
As many as 1000 saplings of various species were planted during the event which saw active participation of the general public, civil society, NGOs etc. The event was organized with a vision to emphasize on the importance of the forest ecosystem in general, the well-being of society at large and riverine ecology in particular.
Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest emphasized on the religious and cultural importance of the Devika River and gave a message to the general public to plant more and more trees.
The DFO Udhampur informed that the department has organized a series of events including Painting & Essay writing competitions which witnessed the participation of over 200 students.
