UGC Rollback Mahapanchayat in Delhi Postponed After Government Holds Talks With Karni Sena

JP Nadda and Jitendra Singh hold discussions with Raj Shekhawat-led delegation; another meeting with the group is expected within three weeks.

New Delhi, Sept 20: The UGC Rollback Savarna Mahapanchayat, scheduled at Jantar Mantar in Delhi on Sunday, has been postponed following discussions between Union ministers J P Nadda and Jitendra Singh and a delegation led by Kshatriya Karni Sena president Raj Shekhawat.

Nadda said the meeting was held with Shekhawat, who is also the founder of the UGC Rollback Savarna Mahapanchayat Committee, and other representatives. According to Nadda, the concerns raised by the delegation were discussed and the government would consider the issues raised by them. He added that another meeting would be held within the next three weeks.

Following the talks, Shekhawat confirmed that the proposed gathering had been postponed. He said the decision followed several rounds of discussions with senior government representatives over concerns linked to the UGC Regulations, 2026, and reservation policies.

The delegation that met the ministers included Shubhanshu Singh Rajput, national president of Samriddh Sanatan Sangh; R K Singh, IT cell president of the All India Kshatriya Mahasabha; advocate Sangeeta Singh, national president of the women’s wing of Kshatriya Karni Sena; and advocate Himanshu Sharma, legal adviser to the Savarna Mahapanchayat Committee.

The proposed Mahapanchayat was intended to raise concerns about the UGC (Promotion of Equity in Higher Education Institutions) Regulations, 2026, as well as reservation-related policies. The UGC lists the 2026 equity regulations among its new regulations.

Shekhawat said the government had sought three weeks to examine the issues raised by the delegation. He said further discussions would take place after the review.

The postponement came shortly before the scheduled gathering. Earlier, the Delhi High Court had directed the Delhi Police to consider a fresh application from Shekhawat regarding permission for a proposed protest at Jantar Mantar on September 20.

The latest development follows earlier discussions between government representatives and groups raising concerns over reservation policies and the new UGC regulations. The next meeting between the government and the delegation is expected to determine the further course of discussions.
