UK Gurdwara Welcomes Meaningful Interaction with RSS Chief
Bhagwat visits historic Khalsa Jatha Gurdwara in London during overseas outreach tour
LONDON, Sep 6: Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat held a “meaningful interaction” with members of the British Sikh community during his visit to the historic Khalsa Jatha British Isles Gurdwara Sahib in London, Rajya Sabha MP Vikramjit Singh Sahney said on Sunday.
Bhagwat visited the gurdwara, considered one of the oldest Sikh places of worship outside India, earlier this week as part of the final leg of his overseas outreach programme covering the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom.
The historic gurdwara dates back to 1908 and remains an important centre for the Sikh community in Britain.
According to Sahney, Bhagwat offered a Rumala Sahib, participated in the offering of Kada Prasad and interacted with members of the gurdwara management.
Sahney said Sikh tradition welcomes devotees who enter the Guru Darbar with humility to offer prayers and seek blessings.
During his UK visit, Bhagwat also went to the Shree Swaminarayan Temple in Willesden, where he participated in Janmashtami celebrations.
Later on Sunday, the RSS chief was scheduled to address a major public gathering in London under the theme “Celebration of Oneness”. The programme has been organised by Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh (HSS) UK, a Hindu social and cultural organisation established in Britain in 1966, with support from Integral UK.
Sunil Ambekar, a member of the RSS Central Executive Team, said more than 310 community organisations and associations from across the United Kingdom were expected to participate in the event.
Bhagwat’s international tour, organised as part of programmes marking the RSS centenary year, is expected to conclude on Monday with his return to India.
