Sunil Sharma Says Congress Decisions Are ‘Cooked in Abdullahs’ Kitchen’
BJP Terms Congress a ‘Puppet’ of National Conference in Jammu and Kashmir

Srinagar, Oct 24: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday launched a scathing attack on the Congress, accusing it of functioning as a “puppet” of the ruling National Conference (NC) in Jammu and Kashmir. The remarks came shortly after the Congress announced its support for the NC candidates in the Rajya Sabha elections scheduled for Friday.
Addressing media persons in Srinagar, BJP MLA and Leader of the Opposition, Sunil Sharma, said the Congress was no longer an independent political force and was merely executing decisions crafted by the NC leadership. “The Congress does only what the Abdullahs decide. Every major decision is cooked and served in the Abdullahs’ kitchen, and their office bearers here act only after receiving approval from Delhi,” Sharma alleged.
He said the Congress’s decision to back the NC candidates was predictable and reflected the party’s lack of political autonomy. “It is not a surprise that Congress is supporting the NC. Their politics has long been dictated by the same family, and they have no independent ideology of their own,” he remarked.
Turning his criticism towards the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Sharma said both the NC and PDP were family-run outfits that aimed to maintain political monopoly in Jammu and Kashmir. “The NC and PDP have now openly joined hands. Their alliance is not about principles or governance but about preserving family control over power. These two families will never allow an ordinary citizen to rise in politics or attain power. Whenever they feel politically threatened, they unite under the guise of protecting democracy,” he said.
Sharma described their unity as an act of political convenience, stating, “They are very clever people. Whenever they sense danger, they quickly come together. What they did yesterday was another example of their political cunning.”
When asked if abstentions in the Rajya Sabha election voting might benefit the BJP, Sharma responded with confidence, “You can analyse and see for yourself who will ultimately benefit. We are clear about our goal and will achieve it.”
The Congress, on its part, defended its decision, stating that it was a necessary step to prevent the BJP’s “divisive agenda.” In a statement issued on Thursday, the party said it would support the NC candidates and “keep all internal differences aside in the face of the challenges posed by the BJP’s policies.” The Congress described its move as a commitment to unity against “atrocities and subjugation” allegedly perpetuated by the BJP.
