Unity in Diversity: Muslims and Hindus Coexist During Amarnath Yatra, Says Dr. Farooq Abdullah

18-06-2023 : Dr. Farooq Abdullah, a Member of Parliament and former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir, highlighted the coexistence and support between Muslims and Hindus during the Amarnath Yatra, urging those who spread hatred in the country to take note. He emphasized that the Yatra, a pilgrimage to the holy Amarnath cave in the Kashmir Valley, serves as a reflection of the brotherhood and harmony present in the region.

Dr. Abdullah emphasized that the support extended by both Muslims and Hindus to ensure the smooth conduct of the Yatra should serve as an example to those who promote division and animosity. He called upon individuals who spread hatred to witness firsthand how people from different religious backgrounds in Kashmir come together and support one another during this sacred journey.

Responding to concerns about issues such as water scarcity, electricity shortages, and food grain supply, Dr. Abdullah acknowledged that these problems are recurring every year. While he acknowledged that there is currently not a severe shortage of water, he urged the government to address these issues and ensure sufficient resources are available to meet the needs of the pilgrims.

As a member of the Parliamentary committee for food, Dr. Abdullah revealed that they have appealed to the government to restore sufficient food grain supply, as it has been reduced. He highlighted the importance of the Amarnath Yatra for the local economy, as many individuals, particularly those from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, earn their livelihood during this period and rely on their earnings throughout the winter season.

When asked about elections, Dr. Abdullah declined to comment on the issue, redirecting the focus to the significance of the Amarnath Yatra and the unity displayed by the people of different faiths in Kashmir.
