University of Jammu Unveils Ambitious Plans for Infrastructure Development, Academic Excellence, and Community Engagement

Jammu, 03-01-2023 : The University of Jammu is set to undergo a significant transformation, placing a strong emphasis on infrastructure development and academic quality. In a visionary move, the university, under the leadership of Vice-Chancellor Prof Umesh Rai, is poised to create an expansive on-campus parking facility and an iconic main gate reflecting the rich Dogra culture. The institution is also gearing up for capacity development programs tailored for faculty members, demonstrating a commitment to academic excellence.

Highlighting the future trajectory, Prof Umesh Rai announced the upcoming Women Science Congress and a three-day mega festival named “Goonj.” This festival aims to showcase the diverse talents and best practices of universities in J&K and affiliated colleges of JU. The Vice-Chancellor shared these plans during a media interaction, shedding light on the ongoing initiatives, achievements, and the university’s strategic vision.

Prof Rai underscored the importance of capacity development for faculty members, revealing financial support of Rs 5 crore from the UT Government for these programs. An additional Rs 5 crore has been sanctioned for implementing the National Education Policy (NEP-2020), with specialized training earmarked for the faculty of the ‘Design Your Degree’ program.

The university is set to embark on a robust infrastructure development journey, initiating projects such as an innovation tower and a monumental main gate. These projects are envisioned to create a conducive environment for learning and innovation.

In the cultural and academic calendar, the Women’s JK Science Congress is slated for February, emphasizing the university’s commitment to promoting scientific inquiry among women scholars. Simultaneously, the “Goonj” festival will offer a platform for universities in UT J&K and affiliated colleges of JU to showcase their best practices, talents in dance, music, and sports.

Adding a unique dimension to engagement, the university plans to launch a program titled “Bajargon ke baat Yuvawo ke sath,” fostering intergenerational dialogue. The program aims to facilitate the sharing of life experiences between elders and youth. Elders will be invited to the campus, and youth will engage with them in villages, with the experiences documented in a comprehensive documentary.

The press conference, where these plans were unveiled, featured key university figures, including Prof Meena Sharma, Prof Neelu Rohmetra, Prof Rahul Gupta, Prof Rajiv Rattan, Prof Pankaj Srivastava, Prof J P S Joorel, Prof Naresh Padha, and Prof Satnam Kour. This collective effort signifies the university’s holistic approach to education and community engagement.
