UP Congress Chief Claims Cough Syrup Case Constable Gets ‘Special Privileges’ Post-Arrest
Ajay Rai accuses Yogi govt of giving exceptional privileges to Alok Singh, arrested mastermind behind narcotic syrup racket
Lucknow, Dec 3: Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee President Ajay Rai on Wednesday accused the Yogi Adityanath government of giving “damad-like” treatment to dismissed constable Alok Pratap Singh, arrested in connection with the narcotic cough syrup scandal.
Rai alleged on social media that Singh, the key figure in the illegal syrup syndicate, is receiving special care and privileges post arrest, despite the scandal affecting thousands of lives. “While criminals involved in minor offenses face immediate action, the mastermind of a syndicate ruining thousands is treated like a VIP. This is not justice but Yogi’s protection model,” Rai wrote.
The UP Special Task Force (STF) apprehended Singh on Tuesday morning near Plasio Mall in Gomtinagar Extension. Singh, reportedly close to former MP Dhananjay Singh, is being interrogated regarding the large-scale illegal trade of codeine-based cough syrups.
The syndicate allegedly diverted cough syrup to the black market using forged documents and a network of shell companies and medical stores, misrepresenting sales as legal. Other accused include Shubham Jaiswal and Amit Singh Tata, who are under investigation.
The arrest comes after the STF issued a lookout circular against Singh, who later filed an application to surrender in court. Authorities continue to probe the racket and the extent of its operations across Uttar Pradesh.
