UP Sterilises, Vaccinates Over 75,000 Dogs in 5.5 Months

Uttar Pradesh records 75,006 sterilisation and vaccination procedures as authorities push for stronger monitoring and digital tracking of street animals.

Lucknow, Oct 5: Uttar Pradesh has sterilised and vaccinated 75,006 dogs between April 1 and September 15, 2026, as part of the Animal Birth Control (ABC) programme, officials said on Monday.

The figures were presented during a high-level review meeting on the implementation of the National Livestock Digital Mission (NDLM), chaired by Chief Secretary S P Goyal.

The meeting assessed the status of livestock related digital records on the Bharat Pashudhan app, registration of street dogs and the progress of the ABC programme across the state.

According to an official release, the sterilisation and vaccination drive is being carried out in all 17 municipal corporations of Uttar Pradesh.

The review also examined the appointment of nodal officers responsible for coordinating livestock-related activities and ensuring timely data management. At the panchayat level, 99.85 per cent of the appointments have been completed, while urban areas have achieved 92.28 per cent progress at the ward level.

Appointments of nodal officers at the state, district and block levels have been completed, the release said.

Goyal instructed officials to finish the remaining appointments in urban local bodies and gram panchayats within three days. He also directed authorities to create their official IDs promptly so that livestock information can be uploaded on the Bharat Pashudhan platform without delay.

The Chief Secretary stressed the need for complete and accurate digitisation of livestock records and called for regular checks to maintain the quality of information being entered into the system.

He further directed officials to begin mapping stray animals once the nodal officer network is fully established. Particular emphasis was placed on appointing a ward-level nodal officer in every urban ward to strengthen monitoring of street dogs and improve management of livestock-related data.

Goyal called for closer coordination between officials at the state, district and local levels and instructed departments to follow a time-bound approach while implementing the mission.

He also ordered regular reviews of pending tasks so that delays could be addressed and targets achieved within the prescribed timelines.

Additional Chief Secretary, Animal Husbandry, Mukesh Kumar Meshram and other senior officials from the departments concerned were present at the meeting.
