US Confirms No New Missiles to Be Supplied to Pakistan Under Defence Deal

Clarifies AMRAAM contract update is only for maintenance and spare parts, not new deliveries.

US, Oct 10 : The US Department of War on Friday denied reports claiming it is supplying new Advanced Medium Range Air to Air Missiles (AMRAAMs) to Pakistan.

In a statement, the Department clarified that a recent update to an old Foreign Military Sales (FMS) contract pertains solely to maintenance and spare parts for several countries, including Pakistan. It emphasized that the update “does not include any upgrades or new deliveries”.

The clarification comes after some media outlets suggested that the United States was providing new missile systems to Pakistan. Officials stressed that these reports were false and that the changes are part of routine support work, not a new weapons sale.

The AMRAAM missile, widely used by US allies, is a long range air to air weapon. News regarding its supply to Pakistan often attracts international attention due to sensitive regional dynamics between India and Pakistan.

US officials reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to transparency in defense deals and to ensuring that such agreements do not disrupt the regional military balance.
