NEW DELHI, Aug 30: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi after he was presented with Uzbekistan’s highest state honour for foreign leaders, describing the recognition as a “grand moment of pride” for every Indian.
In a post on X, Shah said the prestigious award reflected India’s growing diplomatic engagement and the government’s efforts to deepen relationships with countries across the world.
He said the recognition demonstrated how India’s diplomatic approach was opening new avenues for cooperation while strengthening the country’s voice among nations of the Global South.
Shah also linked the honour to India’s broader civilisational outlook, saying stronger relations between countries could contribute to the larger objective of promoting the welfare of humanity.
Modi was conferred the ‘Oliy Darajali Do‘stlik’ Order, Uzbekistan’s prestigious state decoration, by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev during the prime minister’s visit to the country.
Accepting the award, Modi dedicated the honour to the enduring friendship between India and Uzbekistan, underlining the longstanding ties between New Delhi and Tashkent.
The recognition adds to the growing list of international honours received by Modi from countries across different regions. He has been awarded several prominent state and civilian decorations in recognition of his leadership and efforts to strengthen bilateral partnerships.
The Uzbekistan honour comes during Modi’s two-day official visit, aimed at further expanding cooperation between the two countries.
During his stay, India and Uzbekistan are expected to focus on key areas such as trade, investment, clean energy, connectivity and other sectors of mutual interest.
The visit is also being viewed as an opportunity to build on existing strategic cooperation and explore new avenues for economic and diplomatic engagement.
India and Uzbekistan have maintained close relations over the years, with both sides seeking to expand collaboration across diverse areas. The latest high-level engagement is expected to provide further momentum to bilateral ties and reinforce the partnership between New Delhi and Tashkent.
