VALLEY ILLUMINATED WITH FAITH

Across the length and breadth of Kashmir, from Hazratbal’s revered courtyard to the distant shrines of Bandipora, the celebration of Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi (PBUH) unfolded with devotion, reverence, and a deep sense of spiritual connection. The faithful gathered in their thousands to remember and honour the birth of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), a messenger whose teachings of love, compassion, and service to humanity continue to inspire generations. At Hazratbal, the centerpiece of the celebrations, night-long prayers filled the air with a sense of collective spirituality, and in the morning, the display of the Holy Relic brought tears of faith to the eyes of devotees. Although the turnout was relatively modest compared to previous years, the depth of emotion and the strength of conviction remained undiminished.

In an atmosphere infused with humility, the occasion became more than a ritual; it was a moment of reaffirmation. For those like Abdul Majeed Wani, a devotee from Budgam, the day symbolized guidance and renewal. His words, recalling the Prophet’s emphasis on caring for the poor and uplifting the vulnerable, echoed the very essence of the celebration. Beyond the rituals, the day reminded people of their duty to uphold values of kindness, charity, and solidarity in a world that often seems to forget them. Such reflections illustrate how the commemoration of the Prophet’s birth is not simply about prayers offered in unison but about embracing principles that can transform communities and strengthen the moral fabric of society. The celebrations were not confined to Srinagar alone. From Asar-e-Sharif Kalashpora and Khanyar to Jinab Sahib Soura, Sonwar, and Budgam, the Valley resonated with the sound of prayers and naats, with each shrine and mosque carrying the same message of peace and unity. In Bandipora, too, large congregations reflected the shared devotion of people across diverse towns and villages. This common thread of faith demonstrated how deeply the Prophet’s message continues to bind Kashmiri society, despite the challenges of the present. What made this year’s celebration more profound was not only the display of faith but also the visible sense of togetherness it evoked. Prominent leaders joined the congregations, not in the spirit of politics but as fellow believers seeking solace and blessing alongside ordinary devotees. Their participation and prayers for peace, harmony, and prosperity added to the symbolic weight of the day, reminding us that spirituality has the power to unite beyond social, political, or economic divides. The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) devoted his life to teaching the world that true greatness lies in serving humanity, in extending kindness where there is suffering, and in building bridges where there is division. Kashmir’s observance of Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi is a powerful testament to the fact that these lessons remain as relevant today as they were centuries ago, at a time when societies across the globe wrestle with discord, intolerance, and indifference, the Prophet’s message shines as a guiding light that points toward compassion as a cure, unity as a strength, and service as a sacred duty. What unfolded across the Valley was not only a spiritual celebration but also a reaffirmation of identity. The sight of thousands raising their hands in prayer, children reciting verses, and families traveling long distances to participate in the congregations was a reminder that faith, when expressed collectively, becomes a source of resilience and renewal. It strengthens the bonds of community and offers hope even in uncertain times. As the faithful dispersed from Hazratbal and other shrines after catching glimpses of the Holy Relic and participating in day-long prayers, they carried home not just blessings but a renewed responsibility. To embody the Prophet’s teachings in everyday life is the real tribute to his memory. To serve the poor, care for the neighbour, and uphold truth and justice are not lofty ideals meant for sermons but principles that demand practice in daily living.

The commemoration of Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi in Kashmir this year was thus more than a festival; it was an occasion that reawakened the timeless spirit of the Valley. It reminded people of their unbroken traditions, their shared faith, and their enduring spiritual bond with the Messenger of Peace. In the life and teachings of the Prophet rests a timeless message, one that rises above all boundaries and continues to illuminate the path of humanity with compassion, unity, and harmony, reminding us that love and service are the truest expressions of faith.
