VCAS Credits Strong Network for Success of Operation Sindoor
VCAS Air Marshal Narmdeshwar Tiwari highlights critical role of integrated military networks and advanced systems in India’s decisive May operation.
New Delhi, Nov 11: The success of Operation Sindoor in May was largely due to India’s “good and robust network,” Vice Chief of Air Staff (VCAS) Air Marshal Narmdeshwar Tiwari said on Tuesday, underscoring the importance of modern military command and control systems.
Addressing a defence seminar on ‘C4I2 & Net-centric Warfare India 2025’ at Subroto Park, Air Marshal Tiwari emphasized that India’s integrated network system has evolved over the past two decades, allowing the armed forces to maintain a comprehensive “air picture” for monitoring potential threats across the country.
Operation Sindoor, launched on May 7, targeted terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK), with India conducting swift counter-offensives amid Pakistani military responses. The operation concluded after both countries reached an understanding on May 10.
“The operation demonstrated that effective military action is possible when forces are networked correctly and equipped with the right tools,” Air Marshal Tiwari said. “Had it not been for a strong network, we might have achieved success, but not with the same efficiency.”
He highlighted the pivotal role of systems like the Integrated Air Command and Control System (IACCS) in enabling rapid decision-making during the operation.
Air Marshal Ashutosh Dixit, Chief of Integrated Defence Staff, described Operation Sindoor as a “watershed moment in India’s defence history,” adding that indigenous platforms and AI-based tools provided significant battlefield agility. “Homegrown technology gave us freedom and agility on the battlefield,” he said.
The seminar, hosted by the Centre for Aerospace Power and Strategic Studies and Indian Military Review, also focused on the growing significance of command, control, communications, computers, intelligence, and interoperability (C4I2) in net-centric warfare amid evolving military challenges.
