Verma Says Govt Will Approach Centre for Large-Scale Road Projects

Minister Parvesh Verma says PWD will approach Centre for Rs 1,200 crore to boost infrastructure and ease congestion

New Delhi, Feb 04 :  Cabinet minister Parvesh Verma on Tuesday announced that the Public Works Department (PWD) plans to request around Rs 1,200 crore in central assistance for extensive road strengthening and expansion initiatives aimed at improving the capital’s transport infrastructure.

The department was allocated Rs 805 crore for road development in the current financial year, but officials believe enhanced funding is necessary to accelerate large scale projects. Verma said additional support would help upgrade road quality, reduce traffic bottlenecks, and improve commuter safety across the city.

Budget signals long-term growth

Describing the Union Budget 2026–27 as a “next-generation budget,” the minister said it reinforces the country’s economic base while supporting Delhi’s growth trajectory. He emphasised that coordinated efforts between the Centre and the city government are enabling quicker execution of projects that had been pending for years.

According to Verma, the budget outlines a broader vision for a developed India by 2047, with the national capital expected to progress alongside that transformation.

Push for governance and infrastructure

The minister added that over the past 11 months, the Delhi government has focused on bringing greater stability, accountability, and efficiency to administration, helping revive stalled works and improve public services.

He also referred to the United States reducing tariffs on Indian goods to 18%, calling it a significant economic milestone that reflects rising global confidence in India’s economic resilience and growth prospects. Verma credited the development to the country’s strengthening position as a dependable global economic player.
