Vikar Rasool accuses CM Omar Abdullah of political hypocrisy, says NC betrayed Congress under Amit Shah’s influence

Srinagar, Oct 16: Former Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) president and senior Congress leader Vikar Rasool Wani launched a blistering attack on Chief Minister and National Conference (NC) vice president Omar Abdullah, accusing him of “political hypocrisy” and “betraying the Congress at the behest of the BJP leadership.”

In a sharp post on social media, Vikar Rasool alleged that Omar Abdullah had “fallen to a new political low,” claiming that the NC leader was now “hiding behind the INDIA Alliance after betraying Congress on the orders of Union Home Minister Amit Shah.” He further added that Omar was “desperately seeking support from the PDP and Congress for votes in the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections” despite having “stabbed his allies in the back.”

Vikar Rasool’s remarks came amid heightened political activity and behind-the-scenes negotiations within the INDIA bloc in Jammu and Kashmir ahead of the Rajya Sabha polls. The opposition alliance is reportedly struggling to arrive at a consensus on candidates as internal rifts and regional power equations complicate decision-making.

The senior Congress leader said that the National Conference’s recent conduct reflected double standards and opportunism, asserting that Omar Abdullah’s shifting political stance exposed the “hollowness of his commitment to the alliance.” He alleged that while the NC publicly claims to stand with the INDIA bloc, its actions often align with the “hidden agenda of the BJP.”

“On one hand, Omar Abdullah criticizes the Centre for its policies in Jammu and Kashmir; on the other, he continues to follow a political script that benefits the BJP,” Vikar Rasool said, adding that such duplicity has “disheartened Congress workers and confused the people of J&K.”

The Congress leader also cautioned that credibility and consistency were crucial in the fight against divisive politics. “You cannot claim to represent the voice of democracy and secularism while acting on the dictates of those undermining it,” he remarked, urging the NC leadership to “come clean before the people of Jammu and Kashmir.”

Vikar Rasool’s comments reflect the growing unease within sections of the Congress over the National Conference’s political maneuvering and its perceived tilt toward expedient alliances. As the Rajya Sabha election approaches, the fault lines within the opposition alliance appear to be widening, potentially reshaping the contours of politics in the Union Territory.
