Village Defence Guard Ends Life Amid Family Distress in Kishtwar, J&K

Tek Chand, 45, allegedly takes his own life after his teenage daughter goes missing in Akra village

JAMMU, Sep 20: In a tragic incident, a village defence guard allegedly shot himself dead at his residence in Akra village, Kuntwara area of Kishtwar, Jammu and Kashmir, on Saturday morning, officials said.

The deceased has been identified as Tek Chand, 45. Sources stated that Chand had been distressed for the past few days after his teenage daughter, a Class 10 student, went missing. Locals claimed she had eloped with a local boy from her community.

Chand had reportedly lodged a complaint regarding his daughter’s disappearance but remained depressed, ultimately taking the drastic step of ending his life.

Police teams rushed to the scene after being informed. The body has been sent for a postmortem and will be handed over to the family for last rites, officials added.
