VinSpace Partners with Elon Musk’s SpaceX to Launch First Satellites in 2027
Vietnam’s emerging space company plans to deploy its first satellites through a SpaceX rideshare mission as it expands into commercial aerospace
HANOI, Aug 11: Vietnamese aerospace company VinSpace has signed an agreement with SpaceX to launch its first satellites into orbit in 2027, marking a significant step in Vietnam’s efforts to expand its presence in the global space industry.
The satellites will be deployed through a SpaceX Transporter rideshare mission, under which spacecraft from multiple customers are launched on a single rocket. The model allows satellite operators to share launch expenses while gaining access to established launch infrastructure.
VinSpace said it will design, develop and operate the satellites. The planned mission will be used to validate the company’s technologies in orbit and establish a foundation for future commercial space applications.
The company, part of Vietnam’s Vingroup conglomerate, was established in November 2025. In April, VinSpace announced plans to develop and launch its first satellites in 2027 as part of its broader strategy to build an integrated aerospace business.
VinSpace aims to develop capabilities across the space value chain, including satellite design and manufacturing, launch coordination, spacecraft operations and space-based data services.
“Reliable access to space is fundamental to turning satellite innovation into operational missions,” VinSpace CEO Thu Vu said in a statement.
The company has not disclosed the financial value of its agreement with SpaceX. Details regarding the number, design and specifications of the satellites also remain undisclosed.
Vingroup expands into high-tech sectors
VinSpace is backed by Vingroup, Vietnam’s largest privately owned conglomerate, founded by billionaire Pham Nhat Vuong. The group has businesses spanning real estate, retail, healthcare, education and tourism, while increasingly directing investment toward advanced technologies.
Its expansion into areas such as electric vehicles, artificial intelligence, robotics and aerospace reflects Vietnam’s broader ambition to strengthen its technology-driven economy.
Vietnam seeks stronger position in space
Vietnam has been developing its space capabilities for several decades, although it remains a relatively small participant in the international space sector. The country launched its first telecommunications satellite in 2008 and followed it with another in 2012.
In March, Vietnam inaugurated a major space science and technology centre at Hoa Lac High-Tech Park in Hanoi. The facility is intended to support satellite development and expand the use of space-based data.
Vietnam has set a goal of becoming a mid-level space power in Southeast Asia by 2030, with satellite technology expected to play an increasingly important role in areas such as communications, environmental monitoring and data services.
SpaceX deepens presence in Vietnam
The agreement with VinSpace comes after Vietnam authorised SpaceX to provide its Starlink satellite internet service in the country in February. Starlink has subsequently started accepting orders from Vietnamese customers.
For VinSpace, access to SpaceX’s established launch network provides an opportunity to test its spacecraft in orbit while developing the expertise required for future missions.
The 2027 launch is therefore expected to serve as an important technology demonstration for the young company as it seeks to establish itself as a full-service aerospace provider.
