Wankhede Stadium to Name Stand in Honour of Ravi Shastri

Wankhede Stadium Honours Cricket Legends with Stand and Gate Dedications

Mumbai: The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has announced that a stand at the iconic Wankhede Stadium will be named after former India all rounder and coach Ravi Shastri, while three stadium gates will be dedicated to Dilip Sardesai, Eknath Solkar, and Diana Edulji.

The decision was approved during the MCA’s Apex Council meeting, recognizing the immense contributions of these stalwarts to Mumbai and Indian cricket.

Under the plan, the Level 1 stand below the Press Box will bear Shastri’s name, acknowledging his achievements as a player, captain, coach, and commentator. Meanwhile, Gate No. 3 will be named after Sardesai, who represented India in 30 Tests and played extensively in domestic cricket. Gate No. 5 will honour Edulji, a pioneer of Indian women’s cricket, while Gate No. 6 will commemorate Solkar, celebrated as one of India’s finest close-in fielders.

MCA president Ajinkya stated that the move reflects the association’s commitment to preserving its rich legacy. “Mumbai cricket is built on the foundation laid by our stalwarts. It is our responsibility to honour those who have brought pride to the city and the nation,” he said.

The initiative underlines how Wankhede Stadium honours cricket legends, ensuring that generations of fans remain connected to the heroes who shaped the city’s cricketing heritage.
