Wife of Late IPS Officer Y Puran Kumar Gives Consent for Autopsy, Last Rites Scheduled Today
Postmortem at PGI Chandigarh to Be Conducted Under SIT Supervision Amid Ongoing Investigation
New Delhi, Oct 15 : Amneet P Kumar, wife of late IPS officer Y Puran Kumar, has given her consent for her husband’s autopsy, which will be conducted today at PGI Chandigarh by a special team of doctors. The procedure will be supervised by the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) and the Special Investigation Team (SIT), and the entire process will be videographed for documentation.
The development comes following the shocking death of Puran Kumar on October 7, when he was found dead from a gunshot wound at his Chandigarh residence. In his eight-page suicide note, the officer reportedly accused eight senior IPS officials, including Haryana DGP Shatrujeet Kapoor, of caste-based discrimination, mental harassment, and abuse. Kapoor has since been sent on leave pending investigation.
The officer’s last rites are scheduled for 5 pm today in Chandigarh. Amneet P Kumar stated that the family agreed to the autopsy after assurances from Chandigarh Police and the Haryana government that the investigation would be conducted fairly and transparently.
In a related incident, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Sandeep Kumar from Rohtak allegedly died by suicide on Tuesday, accusing Puran Kumar of corruption. In a video message, he praised former Rohtak SP Narendra Bijarnia as an honest officer and expressed support for him. Police sources noted that Sandeep had previously been involved in the arrest of Head Constable Sushil Kumar, who was reportedly close to Y Puran Kumar.
