Congress Ramps Up J&K Poll Efforts, Names Channi and Agnihotri as Senior Election Observers
NEW DELHI, Sept 17: The Congress Party has appointed two senior leaders, Charanjit Singh Channi and Mukesh Agnihotri, as AICC senior observers for the upcoming assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir. Mr. Channi, the former Chief Minister of Punjab, and Mr. Agnihotri, the Deputy Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, will oversee the election process to ensure effective coordination and leadership during the campaign.
According to a statement released by the party, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge made these appointments to bolster the party’s strategy and engagement in the crucial elections. The Congress recently released its manifesto, focusing on welfare measures for farmers, women, and youth while also advocating for inclusive and accountable governance. One of the key promises in the manifesto is the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood, a demand that has remained central to the party’s stance on the region.
The Jammu and Kashmir elections are being conducted in three phases. Voting for 24 seats in the first phase is scheduled for September 18, 2024. The second phase, covering 26 seats, will be held on September 25, and the third phase, for 40 seats, will take place on October 1. The vote counting is set for October 8, 2024.
This election is significant for the Congress Party as it seeks to reclaim political space in Jammu and Kashmir, aiming to provide a strong alternative to the ruling BJP. With Channi and Agnihotri’s experience and leadership, the party hopes to mobilize support and build momentum across the region.
