JAMMU: The empowerment of women is imperative for the development of the society and that the Central Government headed by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi is committed to facilitate the women to improve their living standard.
This was stated by Advocate Purnima Sharma, Spokesperson BJP J&K and former Deputy Mayor while addressing the students of Government Higher Secondary School Mubarak Mandi Jammu today.
Today’s programme was organised by a NGO INARA Group in which sanitary napkins were distributed among the girl students. On the occasion, Purnima Sharma was the Chief Guest.
Speaking on the occasion, Purnima Sharma said that there is dire need to sensitise the women about vital social and health issues, especially those related to personal health and hygiene. She highlighted the importance of good menstrual hygiene and awareness about the social issues faced by women during menstruation and ease of access to sanitary products. Adding further she said that most of the rural women often lack knowledge regarding menstruation which can be due to socio-cultural barriers.
The former deputy Mayor said it’s is important to educate women about issues related to menstruation. She said that the purpose of the programme was to aware girls about hygiene- practices during menstruation which can prevent health issues. She said that the government has launched many schemes and programmes for the welfare and development of women of the Union Territory.
The senior BJP leader Purnima Sharma complemented the INARA Group for distributing sanitary napkins and making girls aware about their personal hygiene.
