05-12-2022: World Soil Day is being observed annually on December 5 to raise awareness of the value of good soil and to encourage the sustainable management of soil resources.
The purpose of the event is to increase public awareness of the value of healthy soil for ecosystems, food security, and human well-being. Events are hosted both in UN FAO headquarters and in local communities. The International Union of Soil Sciences first discussed the day in 2002, but FAO did not formally endorse it until 2013. The year 2022’s World Soil Day will have the theme “Soils: Where Food Begins.” It emphasizes how crucial it is to preserve both human welfare and healthy ecosystems. The theme intends to draw attention to the evolving approaches to soil management, raise awareness of the subject, and encourage individuals to work toward enhancing soil health.
The annual World Soil Day (WSD) is celebrated on December 5 in order to draw attention to the value of healthy soil and to promote the sustainable management of soil resources. The International Union of Soil Sciences (IUSS) proposed a day of celebration for soil in 2002.
