‘One Nation, One Election’ key to India’s democratic reforms: Kavinder
JAMMU: Senior BJP leader and former Deputy Chief Minister, Kavinder Gupta today expressed strong support for the ‘One Nation, One Election’ initiative, highlighting it as a transformative step towards streamlined and efficient democratic processes in India.
The senior BJP leader was speaking at the awareness workshop on “One Nation, One Election”, organized by the Parmeshwari Care and Cure Charitable Trust, under it’s Managing Director Prof. (Dr.) Kulbhushan Mohtra. The workshop was attended by prominent personalities from different walks of life.
In the workshop, Kavinder Gupta, former Deputy Chief Minister, was the Chief Guest while Rajeev Gupta, CA, was the key speaker. Prof. (Dr.) Kulbhushan Mohtra and Balbir Ram Rattan were coordinators of the workshop.
The BJP stalwart emphasized that this concept, championed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, aims to strengthen the foundation of Indian democracy while ensuring economic prudence and administrative efficiency.
He underscored that conducting simultaneous elections across the country would eliminate the recurring cycle of electioneering, which often hampers governance and development. He pointed out that frequent elections burden the exchequer and disrupt public life due to the extensive deployment of manpower and resources. “The concept of ‘One Nation, One Election’ is not just about saving money; it’s about providing stability and consistency in governance,” he stated.
Kavinder further noted that simultaneous elections would allow governments at both central and state levels to focus on long-term planning and execution of developmental schemes, rather than being perpetually caught in election mode. “Frequent elections result in the imposition of the Model Code of Conduct, which stalls important welfare initiatives and developmental works. With ‘One Nation, One Election,’ this hindrance will be eliminated, ensuring seamless governance,” he remarked.
Lauding Prime Minister Modi’s foresight, Kavinder Gupta said this reform aligns with the aspirations of a modern India that seeks efficiency and coherence in its democratic processes. He also urged all political parties to rise above partisan considerations and collaborate on making this vision a reality.
Rajiv Gupta, CA, in his address, said that the BJP remains steadfast in its commitment to fostering reforms that benefit the people of India. He appealed to citizens to support this initiative, asserting that it would lead to a more vibrant and robust democracy. “India is at the cusp of transformative change, and ‘One Nation, One Election’ will be a monumental step in our journey towards becoming a global superpower,” he added.
Prof. (Dr.) Kulbhushan Mohtra introduced the subject and Balbir Ram Rattan presented vote of thanks.
