Srinagar, July 27: In a decisive move against the growing menace of drug trafficking, Kulgam Police, under the leadership of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sahil Sarangal (IPS), have attached a property belonging to a notorious drug peddler in accordance with provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
The property in question belongs to Farooq Ahmad Mir, son of Ghulam Ahmad Mir, a resident of Zadoora, Mirbazar in Kulgam district. The accused is a repeat offender, currently involved in two separate NDPS cases:
-
- FIR No. 85/2020 registered at Police Station Mattan under Sections 8, 15, and 29 of the NDPS Act.
- FIR No. 104/2025 registered at Police Station Qazigund under Sections 8 and 15 of the NDPS Act.
Acting in accordance with Section 68-F of the NDPS Act, the competent authority initiated proceedings to attach property suspected to be acquired through illicit drug trade. Following due process, a single-storey residential house measuring 850 sq. ft., along with 12 marlas of land located at Zadoora, Mirbazar, falling under Khewat No. 3, was formally attached. The market value of the attached property is estimated to be around ₹65 lakh.
This action is part of a broader strategy by Kulgam Police to tackle the drug trade through a multi-pronged approach, which not only focuses on investigating and prosecuting drug traffickers but also aims to cripple the economic backbone of those profiting from the illegal narcotics trade.
A senior police official stated, “The attachment of this property sends a strong message that those involved in drug trafficking will not only face legal consequences but also lose the wealth amassed through these criminal activities. We are committed to dismantling the entire network, including its financial roots.”
The public has widely appreciated this proactive step, seeing it as a much-needed measure to curb the rising threat of drug abuse and addiction in the region. The police have further appealed to citizens to come forward with information about drug-related activities and assured them of full confidentiality and protection.
