Heavy Rains Lash Dehradun, Cause Widespread Disruption in Neighbouring Areas
One death reported, several missing; hundreds shifted to safety as CM Dhami monitors situation
Dehradun, Sep 16: Heavy overnight rains battered parts of Uttarakhand, leaving a trail of destruction in Dehradun, Mussoorie, Sahastradhara, and Maldevta, where roads, houses, shops, and even a bridge were washed away early Tuesday.
Disaster Management Secretary Vinod Kumar Suman confirmed that two to three people are feared missing in Dehradun, while a death has been reported from Mussoorie and is currently being verified. Around 300–400 residents have been evacuated to safer locations as teams continue relief and rescue operations in the affected zones.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed concern over the situation in a post on X, saying, “Received the sad news of some shops getting damaged due to heavy rains in Sahastradhara, Dehradun, late last night. District administration, SDRF, and police have reached the spot and are engaged in relief and rescue operations.”
The CM added that he is in constant touch with district authorities and personally monitoring developments. “I pray to God for everyone’s safety,” he wrote in Hindi on the platform.
Rescue teams remain on high alert as the state braces for more rain in the coming days.
