Congress’ Jairam Ramesh Revisits Historic Ramgarh Session, Criticizes RSS

Jairam Ramesh recalls Ramgarh session of 1940, slams BJP-RSS while Congress strategizes for Bihar polls

Patna, Sep 24: Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh on Wednesday recalled the historic Ramgarh session of 1940, during the party’s Working Committee meeting in Patna, and took a swipe at the BJP-RSS over their stance on the Indian Constitution.

Ramesh highlighted that the Extended Congress Working Committee (CWC) at Ramgarh had, for the first time, passed a resolution formally committing the Indian National Congress to the creation of a Constituent Assembly to frame a Constitution for a free India. “The rest is history, including the bitter opposition of the organisation, now celebrating its centenary, to the Constitution adopted on November 26, 1949, and enforced from January 26, 1950,” he said, referring to the RSS.

He also noted the publication of a slim book titled Constituent Assembly and Our Demand by Jai Gopal Narang, which carried a foreword by Jawaharlal Nehru, a strong advocate of the Constituent Assembly. Ramesh shared a screenshot of Nehru’s foreword during his address to the CWC.

The meeting in Patna also serves as a platform for the Congress leadership to deliberate on the party’s strategy for the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections and intensify criticism of the BJP over alleged “vote chori.” Senior leaders, including chief ministers, Pradesh Congress Committee presidents, and Congress Legislature Party (CLP) members, are participating in the extended CWC meeting.
