J&K Pollution Control Committee organizes Workshop on Biomedical Waste Management

JAMMU, SEPTEMBER 26: Jammu and Kashmir Pollution Control Committee today organised a sensitization workshop on the rules and legislations governing the Biomedical Waste Management at the Health Care Facilities.

The representatives from government as well as private healthcare facilities participated in the interactive workshop held here at the Convention Centre. The participants were provided resource material.

The welcome and keynote addresses were delivered by the Member Secretary Ghansham Singh and Principal Scientific Officer, JKPCC Neelu Sharma respectively, followed by a series of presentations.

 The guest speakers included experts from Central Pollution Control Board Delhi Runa Orion Scientist E and Dr Beena Jad, Assistant Professor, Microbiology certified Infection Control Professional Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Institute of Medical Excellence and Associated Hospital (SMVDNSH).

The Principal Scientific Officer JKPCC gave an in house presentation on legal framework, while Dr Anju Sida I/c BMWM Cell, JKPCC explained the procedure for online applications and mechanism.

The Treatment and Disposal being followed by the Common Biomedical Waste Treatment Facility (CBWTF) Samba was also presented by its representative.

In his address, Chairman JKPCC Vasu Yadav highlighted the mandatory compliances prescribed for the health care facilities, as enshrined in the BMW Management Rules, 2016. He further elaborated on the procedure prescribed under the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974, Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1981 and the Environment Protection Act, 1986 to seek necessary consent to establish and operate such facilities.
