Tenga-led panel sweeps KCCI elections, wins 20 of 21 seats

Tenga-led Hope21 panel sweeps KCCI elections with overwhelming mandate as business community backs his leadership and vision for trade revival

Srinagar, Oct 6: The Javid Ahmad Tenga-led panel scored a decisive victory in the elections to the Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), winning 20 out of 21 seats in the Executive Committee and setting the stage for Tenga’s likely return as president. The elections, held under the supervision of the District Administration Srinagar, witnessed a strong voter turnout, reflecting the keen interest of the business community in shaping the chamber’s leadership.

Voting began at 10 a.m. and saw a highly competitive contest among 30 candidates. Tenga, a veteran voice in Kashmir’s business circles, emerged as the top vote-getter with 464 votes, reaffirming his influence and popularity among members. He was followed closely by Ashiq Hussain Shangloo with 457 votes and Umer Nazir Tibetbaqal with 452 votes. The Hope21 panel led by Tenga dominated the results, with several of its candidates securing top positions and commanding significant leads over rivals.

Among the other prominent winners from the panel were Faiz Ahmad Bakshi (445), Fayaz Ahmad Punjabi (443), Altaf Ahmad Tramboo (430), and Ghulam Nabi Bhat (429). They were joined by Farooq Ahmad Kuttoo (423), Showkat Ahmad Pakhtoon (422), Amir Manzoor Guna (421), and Mohammad Ibrahim Siah (421), each securing their place in the new executive body.

The competition was tighter for the remaining seats, where Muzaffar Majid Jan (416), Irfaan Ahmad Guju (403), Mohammad Latief Bhat (402), Afaq Sarwar Malik (398), Tariq Ahmad Dar (398), Zubair Mahajan (396), Abid Hussain Pandith (368), Touseef Ahmad Bhat (366), and Akib Chaya (350) also emerged victorious.

Several candidates, however, failed to make the cut, including Mushtaq Ahmad Beigh (307), Manzoor Ahmad Pakhtoon (241), Sheikh Feroz Ahmad Sidiq (182), Abdul Wahid Malik (158), Mohmad Akram Siah (131), Adil Hussain (119), Majid Aslam Wafai (99), Syed Ehsan Javaid (96), and Sheikh Suhail Ahmad (28).

With the executive committee now in place, the focus shifts to the next crucial step — the election of office bearers including the President, Senior and Junior Vice Presidents, Secretary General, Joint Secretary, and Treasurer. Given the overwhelming mandate secured by his panel, Javid Ahmad Tenga is widely expected to retain the presidency, continuing his leadership of the KCCI and steering the business community’s efforts to address key economic challenges and advocate for policies that strengthen Kashmir’s trade and industry landscape.
