Three Boulders Blasted to Expand Jammu-Srinagar National Highway

Controlled blasts carried out at three locations on NH-44 to ease congestion and enable double lane expansion

JAMMU, Oct 16: Authorities conducted controlled blasts on Wednesday to remove massive boulders obstructing the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44), paving the way for road widening and improved traffic flow.

Divisional Transportation Inspector Vinay Gupta confirmed that the National Highway Company carried out the operation at three locations between Jakhani and Sharika Temple. The removal of these boulders is expected to enhance traffic speed and potentially allow the highway to function as a double-lane route.

“This blast was carried out to remove three large boulders blocking the road. The National Highway Company has successfully blasted them at three points… this will help in increasing traffic speed, and there is a possibility of running the highway on a double lane,” Gupta said.

He also urged motorists to follow traffic rules to avoid congestion. “If people adhere to traffic advice, no jams will occur on the road,” he added.
