Trump Says US ‘Very Close’ to Finalising Trade Deal with India

President Highlights ‘Fantastic Relationship’ With PM Modi During Ambassador Gor’s Swearing In Ceremony

Washington, Nov 11: US President Donald Trump on Monday said that the United States is “very close” to signing a trade agreement with India, calling it a “fair deal” that would benefit both nations.

“We are making a deal with India   a much different deal than we had in the past. We’re getting a fair trade deal, one that’s good for everybody,” Trump said during the swearing in ceremony of Sergio Gor, the new US Ambassador to India.

Trump emphasized the importance of India as a key strategic and economic partner in the Indo-Pacific region, describing it as “an amazing country with the fastest-growing middle class.” He added, “We have a fantastic relationship with Prime Minister Modi, and Sergio has already strengthened that bond by developing a good rapport with him.”

The ceremony, held at the Oval Office, was attended by Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, and other senior officials. Vance congratulated Gor, saying, “You’re going to be a great ambassador and a great representative to the country of India, which the President and I both love.”

Gor, who was confirmed by the US Senate in October, is the youngest-ever American ambassador to India at 38. A close aide of President Trump, he previously served as Director of the White House Presidential Personnel Office, overseeing the vetting of more than 4,000 key government positions.

In his remarks, Gor thanked Trump for his trust and vowed to further strengthen India–US ties. “It’s an incredible honour, and I look forward to enhancing the relationship between our two nations,” he said.

Trump concluded by reaffirming his confidence in Gor’s ability to deepen bilateral cooperation. “Sergio is going to have great success over this very important relationship,” he noted.
