Greece, Ukraine Sign Key Agreement for LNG Supply Boost

Deal to enable US LNG transport to Ukraine via Vertical Corridor from December 2025

Ukrainian, Nov 17 :  President Volodymyr Zelensky made a brief visit to Athens, where Greece and Ukraine signed a key agreement to facilitate the supply of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Ukraine.

According to Greece’s official news agency AMNA, a letter of intent was signed between Greece’s DEPA Commercial and Ukraine’s Naftogaz, paving the way for the transport of US-origin LNG to Ukraine through the Vertical Corridor between December 2025 and March 2026, Xinhua reported.

The agreement was formalised in Athens in the presence of Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and President Zelensky.

Mitsotakis said the deal would provide Ukraine with “diversified and reliable energy sources,” adding that Greece has grown into a key hub for gas flows to Central and Eastern Europe.

Following the meeting, Zelensky thanked Mitsotakis and the participating companies on social media, saying he was grateful to Greece for its “continuous, substantive and multifaceted support.” He highlighted that Ukraine faces daily strikes on critical infrastructure and emphasised the importance of strengthening energy resilience.

Zelensky also thanked both Greece and the US for supporting the energy arrangements and urged continued pressure on Russia. “Russia deserves further sanctions,” he said, noting Greece’s support for initiatives to secure the return of abducted Ukrainian children and prisoners of war.

During the Athens visit, the two leaders also discussed Ukraine’s reconstruction needs, defence cooperation, and progress on Euro-Atlantic integration.
