Mukesh Sahani Supports Rohini Acharya, Calls Bihar Election Loss a Shared Failure
VIP chief calls it “unfair” to blame a single individual for Mahagathbandhan’s loss
New Delhi, Nov 17 : Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP) chief Mukesh Sahani on Monday extended support to Rohini Acharya, daughter of RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, asserting that the defeat in the Bihar Assembly elections was the “responsibility of everyone” and not of a single individual. Sahani said it was “unjust” to single out one person for the Mahagathbandhan’s poor performance.
His remarks come in response to Acharya’s recent statements in which she alleged that her brother, Tejashwi Yadav, blamed her for the alliance’s election setback. Acharya claimed the accusations pushed her to step away from politics and distance herself from her family.
Reacting also to former Congress Bihar chief Akhilesh Prasad Singh—who said RJD MP Sanjay Yadav and Congress leader Krishna Alavaru must explain the alliance’s loss Sahani emphasised that the blame cannot be placed on select individuals.
“His concern is that he is no longer part of the system, which is why he is making such allegations. If anyone points fingers, they must first introspect. Mistakes are everyone’s; defeats are everyone’s; and if there is a victory, it belongs to everyone, including the people. One person cannot be held responsible,” Sahani said.
Speaking on the NDA’s sweeping win, Sahani attributed their success to the ₹10,000 cash transfer made to women voters just days before the polls. He alleged the move influenced voting patterns significantly.
“In elections, victory or defeat are the only outcomes. The Mahagathbandhan didn’t get the success it expected, while the NDA did. We congratulate them. But this is not a genuine mandate this is a mandate driven by money, which is dangerous for democracy,” he said.
He argued that while earlier cash inducements were illegal, similar tactics have now been “legalised through loopholes”, resulting in a major shift of women voters toward the NDA. Sahani’s own party, VIP, failed to win any seat in the 2025 Assembly elections.
