Vijay Varma on Playing Villain in ‘Pink’: ‘Audiences Wanted to Slap Me
Actor opens up about the challenges of playing a dark character and shares excitement for his softer role in upcoming film ‘Gustaakh Ishq’
Mumbai, Nov 19: Bollywood actor Vijay Varma first gained attention in 2016 for his chilling portrayal of a villain in the hit film Pink. While audiences loved to hate his character, his performance earned widespread acclaim from critics and moviegoers alike.
Speaking to IANS, Vijay recalled the intensity of the role, saying, “It takes time to adjust to such roles. I remember when Sujith Da cast me in Pink. There was this extremely intense scene in a car with Taapsee Pannu and the other actors. It was powerfully written but very disturbing.”
He admitted the role felt daunting initially. “I honestly didn’t know if I could pull it off. But as a trained actor, you push yourself. The director’s brief was simple but harsh: ‘If after watching this, a girl doesn’t feel like slapping you, you haven’t done it right.’ Many said they really felt like it, though no one actually slapped me,” Vijay added.
Fast forward to 2025, Vijay is turning heads once again, this time for a very different reason. His upcoming film Gustaakh Ishq showcases him in a completely new light as a soft spoken, tender lover proving his versatility as an actor.
