Adani Offloads Final 7% Stake in AWL via Block Transaction

Singapore based Wilmar becomes sole promoter as Adani fully exits, institutional demand drives the block sale.

NEW DELHI, Nov 21: The Adani Group has sold its remaining 7 per cent stake in Adani Wilmar Ltd (AWL) through a block deal that saw strong demand from domestic and international institutional investors.

Domestic mutual fund houses including Vanguard, Charles Schwab, ICICI Prudential MF, SBI Mutual Fund, Tata MF, Quant MF, and Bandhan MF acquired the stake. International investors from Singapore, the UAE, and other Asian markets also participated in the clean-out transaction, according to sources familiar with the deal.

This final exit follows an earlier 13 per cent stake sale, reducing Adani Group’s holding in AWL before the complete divestment. AWL Agri Business Ltd (formerly Adani Wilmar Ltd) now sees Singapore based Wilmar International as the sole promoter, with an estimated 57 per cent holding, giving the company a clear multinational ownership profile.

The total proceeds from Adani’s full exit amount to Rs 15,707 crore. Analysts note that AWL’s fundamentals remain strong, supported by Wilmar’s global sourcing network and its integrated food staples business spanning wheat flour, rice, pulses, edible oils, and ready to cook products.

Despite robust fundamentals, the stock has traded near its lowest levels since its 2022 IPO, impacted by prolonged stake sale related uncertainty and commodity driven volatility. With the Adani overhang now removed and ownership concentrated under a single multinational promoter, market watchers expect potential for a technical rebound and valuation re-rating.

The broadened institutional investor base from the recent placements is also likely to improve trading stability and long-term investor participation. AWL now enters a new phase as an MNC-controlled food and staples company, with global capital flows expected to shape its future investor profile.
