ED Conducts Nationwide Raids Across 10 States in Medical College Inspection Bribery Case

Searches target medical institutions, officials and middlemen accused of manipulating inspections for academic course approvals.

NEW DELHI, Nov 27: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Thursday carried out coordinated searches across ten states as part of its money laundering probe into alleged bribery in granting academic sanctions to several medical colleges, officials said.

The agency searched at least 15 locations spread across Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and Delhi. These included seven premises linked to medical colleges as well as properties of individuals allegedly involved in the case.

The raids were conducted under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

According to officials, the probe is based on a CBI FIR registered in June, which alleged that bribes were paid to government officials, including personnel of the National Medical Commission (NMC). The officials allegedly shared confidential inspection details with medical college managements and middlemen.

Investigators suspect that this information was used to manipulate compliance parameters and secure approvals for running academic courses at the concerned colleges.

The ED said further financial analysis and evidence collection are underway.
