NC Working Committee Convenes in Srinagar, Key Resolutions Expected

Party leadership to discuss organisational strategy, recent bypoll losses, and internal differences

SRINAGAR, Nov 28: The National Conference’s (NC) influential working committee reconvened in Srinagar on Friday, with the party expected to adopt key resolutions by the conclusion of the second day.

The two day session, which began on Thursday, focuses on party affairs, public issues, ongoing political activities, and organisational priorities. NC president Farooq Abdullah led the meeting, with vice president and Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also in attendance.

Party sources said the deliberations aim to strengthen NC’s outreach, review current political developments, and chart a future course of action. The meeting follows the party’s defeat in the recent Budgam and Nagrota assembly bypolls and ongoing differences with Srinagar MP Ruhullah Mehdi.

Mehdi, a permanent working committee member since 2002, was notably not invited to the session, reflecting the party’s concerns over his public criticisms and disagreements with the government.

Many members who did not get a chance to speak on the first day are expected to address the committee on Friday. The session is set to conclude with the adoption of resolutions and key decisions shaping NC’s organisational and political strategy.
