IT Raids Linked to Business Firm: Karnataka HM Orders Initial Probe into CJ Roy Death

G Parameshwara orders preliminary inquiry as police, forensic teams probe circumstances surrounding Confident Group chairman’s death

Karnataka, Jan 31 :  Home Minister G Parameshwara on Saturday said that Confident Group Chairman CJ Roy’s company was subjected to Income Tax raids in December 2025, weeks before his alleged suicide in Bengaluru. He added that the firm had been given 60 days to file a chargesheet, with the deadline set for February 4.

Speaking to reporters, Parameshwara said Roy had returned from Dubai three days ago and had cooperated with Income Tax officials who visited his office to record his statement.

According to the Home Minister, Roy went into his office saying he would return shortly. When he failed to come out for nearly 20 minutes, it was discovered that he had allegedly taken his own life. Parameshwara said the government would examine earlier developments linked to the case and confirmed that he has directed his department to conduct a preliminary probe.

Police officials said the incident occurred between 3 and 3:15 pm within the Ashok Nagar police station limits. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central Division) Akshay Machindra Hakay said initial findings indicate death by gunshot, and a detailed investigation is underway.

Bengaluru City Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh said forensic teams, including SOCO and FSL units, are analysing the crime scene. Roy was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was declared dead.

CJ Roy’s brother, CJ Babu, said the ongoing Income Tax matter was the only issue he was aware of and stated that Roy had no known threats or financial liabilities. The family, he added, is currently focused on funeral arrangements and gathering details from office staff.

Meanwhile, Roy’s wife Lina Roy and son Rohith Roy reached the post mortem centre at Bowring Hospital along with Karnataka Pradesh Youth Congress Committee president Mohammed Nalapad. Officials also confirmed that Income Tax searches have continued at Roy’s premises over the past two days.

Parameshwara, meanwhile, clarified that his recent meeting with Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge was a courtesy call, during which issues related to development, personal relations and state matters were discussed, with no political deliberations involved.

The last rites of CJ Roy will be held on Sunday at Nature’s Luxuri (Confident Cascade Mega Resort & Convention Centre) in Bannerghatta, Bengaluru, as investigations into the case continue.
