Trump Nobel Debate Sparks Spat as Polish PM Warns US Envoy Against ‘Lecturing’
Donald Tusk rebukes the US ambassador after a warning over potential action against Poland’s parliamentary speaker for opposing Donald Trump’s proposed Nobel Peace Prize nomination.
US, Feb 06 : A diplomatic spat has unfolded between Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk and US Ambassador to Poland Tom Rose after the envoy cautioned that parliamentary Speaker Wlodzimierz Czarzasty could face consequences for his criticism of US President Donald Trump.
The controversy was triggered by Czarzasty’s decision not to support an initiative led by US House Speaker Mike Johnson and Israeli Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana. The proposal aims to rally parliamentary leaders worldwide to nominate Trump for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize, citing his involvement in Middle East diplomacy.
Defending his position, Czarzasty argued that Trump’s approach to global affairs promotes coercive politics rather than stability. He said the US president’s reliance on power-driven strategies and transactional policymaking undermines international institutions, making him undeserving of the prestigious honour.
Ambassador Rose’s remarks warning of possible punitive measures drew a sharp response from Tusk, escalating the disagreement into a public diplomatic exchange and highlighting emerging strains in US–Poland political discourse.
