Kashyap Breaks Silence on ‘Bollywood Guy’ Reference in Epstein Documents
Filmmaker denies attending any Beijing event, calls the email “random” as global document release fuels speculation.
Mumbai, Feb 06 : Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has rejected speculation linking him to Jeffrey Epstein after his name reportedly appeared in newly released documents connected to the disgraced financier’s network. The mention, described in some unverified records as a “Bollywood guy” invited to an event in Beijing in 2017, triggered widespread online chatter.
Responding to the reports, Kashyap said he had no knowledge of the alleged invitation and had never travelled to Beijing. He noted that he routinely receives numerous speaking requests but seldom responds to them. The director also questioned the credibility of the emails, calling them “random” and remarking that the attention generated by the controversy seemed greater than that surrounding his films.
Despite the buzz, Kashyap remains focused on his professional commitments. He recently helmed the two-part crime series Nishaanchi and is preparing for the Indian theatrical release of Kennedy, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in 2023 and garnered international attention.
The renewed scrutiny follows the release of millions of records under the Epstein Files Transparency Act, signed into law in November 2025. Published by the US Department of Justice on January 30, 2026, the documents have prompted global headlines and drawn attention to several international figures.
Among those reportedly referenced are Indian-origin personalities such as Deepak Chopra, Mira Nair and Nandita Das. Kashyap’s name is said to feature in email exchanges discussing potential participants for workshops spanning topics like Buddhism, technology and medicine, though no confirmation of involvement has emerged.
