Tamil Nadu Sets Today as Last Date for Electoral Roll Corrections Ahead of February 17 Release

Tamil Nadu Electoral Rolls: Correction Deadline Ends Today, Final List on February 17

Tamil Nadu, Feb 10 :  The final opportunity for voters across Tamil Nadu to submit claims, corrections, and supporting documents for the state’s electoral rolls as the Election Commission concludes its Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise. The updated rolls will serve as the foundation for upcoming elections.

The deadline covers pending applications for new voter inclusion, personal detail updates, and responses to verification notices. Officials confirmed that scrutiny will be completed before the final rolls are released on February 17.

Drive to Ensure Accurate Voter Database
Conducted under the supervision of the Election Commission of India, the revision aims to eliminate duplicate, outdated, and ineligible entries. Once finalized, the rolls are expected to include nearly 5.65 crore voters statewide.

The process began on December 19 with the publication of draft rolls following extensive field verification by booth-level officers. Citizens were allowed until January 30 to file objections, request corrections, or apply for enrollment through online platforms and special district camps.

Strong Public Participation
Authorities reported receiving around 34 lakh applications during the revision period. Submissions came from first-time voters, residents who had relocated, and individuals seeking updates to names, addresses, or photographs.

Meanwhile, approximately 12 lakh entries were flagged for additional scrutiny due to insufficient documentation, prompting officials to issue notices requesting proof of identity and eligibility.

Final Checks Underway
With the correction window closing, election personnel have intensified field visits and document collection to clear pending cases. The Commission has directed officers to expedite enquiries to ensure that only eligible voters appear on the final list.

Residents are encouraged to review their details once the electoral rolls are published and promptly report discrepancies, as accurate voter records remain essential for conducting free and fair elections.
