Rajpal Yadav Legal Battle: Tej Pratap Yadav, Sonu Sood, Gurmeet Choudhary Step In with Support
Rajpal Yadav Cheque Bounce Case: Legal Troubles Deepen, Celebrities and Politician Offer Support
Mumbai, Feb 11 : Actor faces Delhi High Court setback, support pours in from film fraternity and Tej Pratap Yadav
Bollywood comic actor Rajpal Yadav is once again in the headlines as the Delhi High Court rejected his plea in the long-standing Rajpal Yadav cheque bounce case. While the legal storm continues, support is flowing in from actors Sonu Sood, Gurmeet Choudhary, and politician Tej Pratap Yadav, who pledged ₹11 lakh to aid the actor’s family.
Background: Legal Woes Traced to Film Loan
The trouble began in 2010 when Rajpal Yadav borrowed ₹5 crore from Murali Projects Pvt Ltd to fund his directorial debut, Ata Pata Laapata (2012). The film’s box office failure triggered repayment issues, compounded when seven cheques issued by Rajpal bounced.
In April 2018, a Magisterial Court convicted Rajpal and his wife Radha under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, sentencing them to six months’ simple imprisonment a verdict upheld by the Sessions Court in 2019.
By June 2024, the court temporarily suspended his sentence, requesting “sincere and genuine measures” to clear dues, which had grown to nearly ₹9 crore. Despite partial payments, Rajpal missed multiple deadlines, depositing only ₹75 lakh via two demand drafts by October 2025.
Earlier this month, Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma underscored that celebrity status does not guarantee indefinite leniency. On February 4, 2026, the court rejected a last-minute plea for a one week extension, requiring Rajpal to surrender after nearly 20 prior undertakings failed.
Tej Pratap Yadav Steps Forward
Janshakti Janata Dal chief Tej Pratap Yadav announced financial assistance of ₹11 lakh for Rajpal’s family. Posting on X (formerly Twitter), he said, “In this extremely difficult time, I and my entire JJD family stand in complete empathy and solidarity with the grieving family. With human compassion, we are providing ₹11,00,000 to their family.”
Sonu Sood Offers Work and Support
Actor and philanthropist Sonu Sood extended a helping hand, announcing Rajpal will feature in his upcoming film. He urged the film fraternity to support the actor, emphasizing, “A small signing amount, adjustable against future work, is not charity, it’s dignity. The industry must remind him he’s not alone.”
Gurmeet Choudhary Appeals to Film Fraternity
Television actor Gurmeet Choudhary also voiced concern, appealing to producers, directors, and colleagues to rally behind Rajpal. “It breaks my heart to see a senior, immensely talented artist going through such a painful phase. Our industry is a family. And family does not abandon its own,” he tweeted.
Legal and Emotional Crossroads
As the Rajpal Yadav cheque bounce case unfolds, the actor faces both legal and financial challenges. The outpouring of support from the film fraternity and political figures underscores the collective effort to provide relief and solidarity during this difficult period.
