Delhi Police 79th Raising Day: Amit Shah Hails 80% Drop in Violence, Outlines New Criminal Law Reforms

New Delhi, Feb 16 : Union Home Minister Amit Shah attended the 79th Raising Day of Delhi Police as the chief guest, reviewing the ceremonial parade and awarding medals to personnel for their commitment to public safety and exemplary service. The event showcased the police’s elite formations, including SWAT teams, motorcycle units, dog squads, and PCR units, reflecting the force’s operational readiness. Senior officers and personnel were also present.

Amit Shah praised Delhi Police for consistently upholding the ideals of ‘Shanti, Seva, Nyay’ (Peace, Service, Justice), emphasizing the critical role the capital’s police force plays in maintaining national security standards.

Significant decline in regional violence
Highlighting India’s internal security achievements, Shah said the period from 2014 to 2026 marks a golden era. He noted that violence in Kashmir, the Northeast, and Maoist affected areas across eleven states has dropped by 80% since 2014. He assured that by March 31, 2026, the country will be completely free from Maoist violence.

Three new criminal laws to strengthen justice delivery
Shah also highlighted the introduction of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA), which replaced the IPC, CrPC, and Indian Evidence Act in July 2024. He said the reforms aim to raise the conviction rate to 80% within the next three years and ensure swift justice. Key provisions include separate sections for crimes against women and children, legal recognition of E-FIRs and Zero FIRs, community service as a punishment for minor offences, and mechanisms for confiscating properties of proclaimed offenders abroad.

Shah’s address underlined the government’s focus on robust internal security, legal reform, and the modernization of policing, marking the Raising Day as a celebration of both service and reform.
