Australia’s Andrew Charlton to Attend AI Impact Summit in India, Pitch National AI Plan

Assistant Minister to promote safe, inclusive innovation and deepen global partnerships under National AI Plan

Australia, Feb 17 : Australia’s Assistant Minister for Science, Technology and the Digital Economy, Andrew Charlton, is set to participate in the Andrew Charlton AI Impact Summit in India, where he will outline Canberra’s vision for responsible and sustainable artificial intelligence development.

Charlton will use the platform to project Australia as a trusted partner for investment in secure AI infrastructure and ethical innovation. He is expected to emphasise the importance of ensuring that workers’ voices remain central as AI adoption accelerates across industries.

Highlighting Australia’s National AI Plan, he will underscore the government’s focus on deploying emerging technologies in ways that serve national interests while delivering broad-based societal benefits. The plan is supported by the Albanese government’s AI Safety Institute, which promotes international cooperation on AI governance and risk mitigation.

The summit will convene political leaders, technology executives, academics and civil society representatives to deliberate on the evolving global AI framework. During his visit, Charlton is scheduled to engage with counterparts from the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada and India to advance strategic partnerships.

His trip also coincides with the 20th anniversary of the Australia-India Strategic Research Fund, a landmark initiative fostering collaborative research between the two nations since 2006.

Officials say the visit will reinforce Australia’s standing as a regional leader in safe, inclusive and sustainable AI innovation while encouraging greater international investment in its growing technology ecosystem.
