₹1,684 Crore Released for J&K Ring Road Land Acquisition, Govt Tells Assembly
Jammu, Feb 20: The Jammu and Kashmir Government on Friday informed the Legislative Assembly that more than ₹1,684 crore has been paid so far as part of J&K Ring Road compensation for land acquired for the ambitious infrastructure projects in the Union Territory.
Replying to a query raised by MLA Devyani Rana, the Revenue Department stated that the Ring Road project in Jammu division traverses Jammu and Samba districts, while in Kashmir division it spans Srinagar, Baramulla, Pulwama, Budgam, Ganderbal and Bandipora.
The government clarified that compensation is being shared between the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the UT administration in a 90:10 ratio.
Division-wise disbursal details
In Jammu division, against a total awarded compensation of ₹322.21 crore, ₹270.11 crore has been released, leaving ₹52.10 crore pending.
In Kashmir division, out of ₹1,784.49 crore awarded, ₹1,514.34 crore has been released, while ₹270.15 crore remains pending. Of this, ₹1,450.94 crore has already been disbursed to beneficiaries and ₹63.40 crore is yet to be paid.
The government also informed the House that several compensation cases are still under process due to litigation, land disputes and non-deposit of balance funds by the indenting department.
In Jammu division, 38 cases in Samba and 112 in Jammu district are pending. An amount of ₹3.73 crore for Jammu district has been uploaded on the Bhoomi Rashi portal.
In Kashmir division, pending cases include 57 in Srinagar, 7 in Baramulla, 247 in Budgam, 905 in Ganderbal and 32 in Bandipora. Authorities said delays in certain cases are linked to court proceedings and ownership disputes.
Additionally, ₹28.20 crore has been deposited before the High Court of J&K in matters involving title disputes between landowners and the Custodian Department. The government added that compensation in dispute-free cases continues to be released through the Bhoomi Rashi portal.
