Delhi Police Nabs Fifth Suspect in AI Summit Disruption Case
Jitendra Yadav taken into custody, five Youth Congress members now in police custody following disruption at India AI Impact Summit
New Delhi, Feb 23 : Delhi Police secured a major breakthrough in the India AI Impact Summit disruption case with the arrest of the fifth suspect, Jitendra Yadav, in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh. Yadav, associated with the Youth Congress, has been remanded to police custody for two days by the court.
This brings the total number of arrests in connection with the incident to five. Earlier, Krishna Hari, Kundan Yadav, Ajay Kumar, and Narsimha Yadav, all members of the Youth Congress, were detained. Their bail requests were denied by the Patiala House Court, which placed them in police custody for five days.
The controversy erupted on the final day of the five-day India AI Impact Summit at Bharat Mandapam when a group of Youth Congress activists staged a protest. The demonstrators removed their shirts and shouted slogans opposing the India-US trade agreement, causing a disruption during the morning session attended by global delegates and AI experts. Security personnel intervened to manage the situation.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi condemned the actions, criticizing the Congress party for repeated disruptions. “The Congress has consistently disrupted Parliament and created chaos. Their behavior at the AI Global Summit violated all norms and disrespected the office of the Prime Minister,” he said. Modi added that even some Congress supporters were alarmed by the protesters’ conduct, with a few choosing to distance themselves from the party.
The Delhi Police continue to investigate the matter, reviewing footage and evidence to identify any further individuals involved in the protest and ensure accountability.
