Traffic Enforcement Drive in Jammu: 445 Violations Booked, 60 Vehicles Seized
Special operation across nine districts aims to strengthen road safety and curb serious traffic offences.
Jammu, Mar 9: Authorities issued 445 notices for violations of the Motor Vehicles Act and seized 60 vehicles during a special enforcement drive carried out across several districts of Jammu division, officials said on Monday.
The operation, conducted by the Motor Vehicles Department (MVD), was aimed at improving road safety and ensuring stricter compliance with traffic regulations. Officials said the drive also led to recommendations for the suspension of 64 driving licences and 20 vehicle registration certificates due to serious offences that posed risks to public safety.
According to the department, the enforcement initiative was carried out on the directions of Jammu and Kashmir Transport Commissioner Vishesh Paul Mahajan. The drive was conducted simultaneously in multiple districts, including Jammu, Udhampur, Samba, Reasi, Rajouri, Poonch, Ramban, Kishtwar and Doda.
During the operation, authorities established 24 checkpoints at key locations to monitor traffic movement and identify violations. A total of 2,494 vehicles were inspected as part of the checking process.
Officials said the violations detected during the drive included overloading, driving without valid documents, permit-related offences, overspeeding and instances of dangerous driving.
The enforcement action resulted in penalties amounting to Rs 18.18 lakh, reflecting the scale of violations detected during the inspections.
Authorities said such drives will continue in order to promote safer driving practices and ensure adherence to transport regulations across the region.
